        Every year, thousands of Chinese students take part in the college entrance examination. Only hard work and high scores could ensure the opportunity to enter their ideal universities. But recently, many universities are offering olive branches to some talent who might not be academically qualified, such as Olympic winners, chess champions and successful young writers.
        There is no consensus of opinion among people as to this special enrolling. Some people claim that this is a shortcut to the higher education and it spoils the fair play spirit of education. Others, on the contrary, believe it is a pleasant breakthrough in education. Many people have realized that exam results should no longer play a key role in evaluating the achievements students make in school. Instead, attention should be focused on students’ ability and quality as a whole. The very step shows us the higher education is not only preparing students with knowledge and skills for academic research or practical work but also cultivating well-rounded citizens.
        I firmly believe in the merits and the necessity of this special enrolling system. With effective guidance and strict regulations, colleges will enroll and foster more and more qualified talent.
