问题 You will now read a short passage and then listen to a talk on the same topic. You will then be asked a question about them. After you hear the question, you will have 30 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak.
"Save a Watt" Contest
Beginning Winter Semester 2013, Plains Field Tech will begin holding its monthly "Save a Watt" contest. The winner of the contest will be the dorm that uses the least electricity. Residents of the winning dorm will be treated to a free pizza party at Pizza Plus. This contest is being launched as a way of encouraging students to help conserve electricity. So come on. Let’s think green, save money, and get a free meal!
Now hear a conversation between two students.
Question: The woman expresses her opinion toward the announcement of holding a contest of saving electricity on campus. State her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.
M: Hi Julia. Did you hear about the electricity saving contest?
W: I sure did and I think it’s a wonderful idea.
M: Why’s that? It doesn’t make sense to me. Free pizza for the winners? No thanks! If I want a pizza, I’ll buy it.
W: Think about this! First, all people are responsible for saving electricity whether they get pizza or not. It’s easy. All the dorms have to do is to post signs or tell people to turn lights off when they leave the room.
M: Right. But we are not kids anymore. The college doesn’t need to offer us candy and toys to do what is common sense.
W: They don’t need to offer you anything maybe. But other people aren’t as involved as you are in "green causes." For people like that, offering a chance of free pizza is a good idea. They might not care about electricity, but they will care about that pizza party. It’s an effective way to start people off doing the right thing.
M: I still think it’s silly. People might not save electricity when you stop giving them free pizza.
W: Just give the idea a chance, OK? Trust me: this will be a big success!

答案 The university is going to begin holding a contest of saving electricity in the dormitory, and the winning dorm will enjoy free pizza.
And the woman in the conversation thinks this is good news and she has two reasons. Her first reason to agree is that saving electricity is worthwhile and easy to implement through posting signs or telling people to turn the lights off after leaving their room.
Her other reason is that, while some people do not care about saving power, most people will cooperate in order to get free pizza. In brief this is an effective way to raise people’s awareness of saving energy and doing the right thing.
