答案     Keeping healthy has always been an important public issue. I agree with the claim that it’s easier to maintain good health toady than it was in the past. We have seen that the scientific and technological advances and increasing awareness of health by the public nowadays have substantially contributed to the cause of maintaining good health.
    Undeniably, today’s medical science and technologies are much more developed than the past. New medicines are coming out everyday and new cures are being researched for diseases that were incurable in the past. For example, tuberculosis was a fatal disease many years ago, especially in China. But nowadays, with the help of medicines, most TB carriers can be cured within 6—8 months. Besides providing better cure for severe diseases, today’s medical science also offers more vaccines that are crucial in protecting people’s health to prevent diseases. A good example that vaccines can save life is the vaccine for chickenpox.
    Another important reason is related to the public’s awareness. With the joint efforts of intergovernmental organizations such as WHO, today’s society has witnessed a growing public awareness of improving health. This is particular true in China, where lots of people attach great importance to physical exercise. Numerous middle-aged people and seniors would take a walk after dinner and a growing number of young people are going to gymnasiums. The popularity of these activities shows that people pay more attention to health; however, this trend was not observed in the past.
    Some people may argue that it is easier to be healthy in the past because people had less pressure and more time to enjoy life. Although the reason is valid and related to keeping healthy, it concerns individuals more while the two that I mentioned above are more about public health. They are more of statistical significance, so they are among the most relevant factors that contribute to the development of public health system. Therefore, I think it is relatively easier to stay healthy in today’s world than in the past.
