问题     You will read a short passage, listen to a talk, and answer a question about them. After you hear the question, you will have 30 seconds to prepare a response and 60 seconds to record the response.
Now read the letter from the university newspaper about a ban on bikes in the center of campus. You will have 45 seconds to read the article. Begin reading now.
Ban Bikes in the Center of Campus
Many students get around campus by riding bicycles, which is great. However, I think that in particular places—the center of campus between the academic buildings—riding bikes should be prohibited. The sidewalks connecting the academic buildings are narrow. When students ride their bikes on these sidewalks, it’s not very safe for other students who are walking to their classes, because there’s very little space left for them. In order to ensure that students follow the rule, anyone caught riding their bikes in this area should be fined.
                                                                                                                                                                                Sincerely
                                                                                                                                                                               Sam Carbon
Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
The woman expresses her opinion about the proposal described in the letter. Briefly summarize the proposal, then state her opinion about the proposal and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.
Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
W: You know, I’m surprised by the suggestion.
M: Oh, you mean the idea in the letter?
W: Yeah! I don’t think we need that. I mean, most students get off their bikes and walk them anyway and everyone is able to get through without any problem, so all you probably need to do is put up a few signs politely asking everyone to walk their bikes.
M: And you think that would take care of it?
W: I don’t see why not. Students are pretty responsible and since most do it already, that might be just what the few that don’t need.
M: Yeah, you’re probably right.
W: Plus, I don’t think his suggestion for enforcing it’d work.
M: Why not?
W: Well someone, probably campus security, would have to stand there watching that area all the time, right?
M: Right.
W: Well that would be a total waste of resources. I mean, campus security officers have more important things to do than that. It really wouldn’t be a good use of their time.
M: No, it wouldn’t.
W: And I don’t think students would take the idea kindly either.
M: I know I wouldn’t.
W: Me neither.

答案     The student letter proposed that riding bikes should be banned in the center of campus between the academic buildings, because riding bikes in the narrow sidewalks will probably harm the pedestrians. It’s also suggested that a fine should be imposed on those who do this. The woman regards this regulation as unnecessary, because most students get off their bikes and walk them when they get through the sidewalks. Besides, it’d be a waste of resources to have some staff, such as the campus security, stand there the whole time, watching the area to ensure the regulation is followed. And some students would not answer this call kindly. In her opinion, this problem can be solved simply by putting up a few signs that politely ask everyone to walk their bikes.
