Dear Professor,
    I’m deeply sorry that I missed the appointment with you. I started out for your office at nine.  I should have been able to arrive there on time, but unfortunately my bike went flat. I was even more desperate because there was no repair shop in sight. I had had to wheel the bike some five hundred metres before I got help. But it was late, for when I got to your office you had already left. I know you’re pretty occupied these days, but I wonder if you could arrange for another appointment with me now that I badly need your help with my thesis. Would this Friday afternoon be OK for you?
