A court in Yemen has upheld the death sentence on a militant convicted of killing a prominent politician and of coordinating an attack which killed three American Christian missionaries. The defendant Ali al-Jar Allah shouted" God is great!" on hearing the decision and held up his shoes in a sign of contempt. Six accomplices also convicted of killing the socialist party deputy Secretary General Jarallah Oimar in 2002 had their prison sentences overturned, a lawyer for the murdered politician criticized their release, saying they were now free to attack again.
