问题    Competition and cooperation are going along together in modern society. There has been an ongoing argument about which is more essential in children’s education. Some people claim that competition is more important than cooperation. Do you agree or disagree? Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your view on the issue.

   YES
Competition is ubiquitous.   Brutal though it seems to be, it does stimulate our growth. Take the competition among students for example. Not to advance is to go back. Though they have got high marks, they should keep studying hard lest someone else catches up with them. The sense of competition prompts them to make progress unceasingly.
In addition, as the hope of our nation, students should be ambitious and progressive. Competition is a way of life in the modern world. One of the goals of education is to teach students how to adapt to the fierce competitive environment.
   NO
Cooperation is the approach to getting ahead, as individual power is limited.  Can one person build up the Great Wall? Obviously the answer is "no". Nowadays, because of the division of labor in society, no one can fulfill a task by himself.
Modern pedagogy also puts emphasis on fostering children’s teamwork spirit. Let us take computer-supported cooperative work as an instance. The groupware is a type of software designed for groups. Students are encouraged to accomplish systematically ordered instruction tasks by teamwork. While working together, they can perceive their own weaknesses and others’ merits as well, which is vital for them to go forward.

答案    Is Competition More Important than Cooperation in Children’s Education?
Nowadays, the world is developing at a high speed. Therefore, everyone, especially children, needs to learn how to survive in this fast changing society. The problem is which one is more important, competition or cooperation? Some argue that competition is more useful, for children will live in a competitive environment after they grow up, while others hold that cooperation is the approach to getting ahead. In my opinion, competition is of great importance and one will definitely benefit from it.
Among countless factors which influence my judgment, there is a most conspicuous one: the survival of the strongest principle. In light of Darwin’s evolutionism, no matter in the animal kingdom or the human society,  only the strongest and fittest one can survive.Stress from the modern society and families impels children to be involved in the cruel competition. For example, since finding a good job has become more difficult than before, a job applicant must weigh up the competition from others, and show his or her merits to interviewers. Thus, what kind of job he or she will get depends on whether he or she can compete with the rivals or not.
The further reason why I advocate competition is that children often make great progress in competition. As we all know, no one can win everything. Students will know how to face success and failure after having participated in competitive activities. The experience gained from competition, which they may have won or lost, will benefit them eventually.
All in all, it is reasonable to believe that the competitive capacity is crucial to the development of the young people and our society. Therefore, competition plays an important role in education.
