    The term "urban disease" has been gaining popularity recently, which refers to the various problems that increasingly make cities unpleasant to live in: from worsening air pollution and traffic jams, to the ever-rising cost of education and medical treatment.
    There is no denying that a convenient and entertaining city life used to be a fascinating appeal, especially to the young. But a growing number of city dwellers now complain about unsatisfactory transportation, environment, housing, public facilities and buildings. Meanwhile, they see the incredible pace of their cities’ changes, with many modern and postmodern buildings appearing, but do not perceive any sense of intimacy due to lack of the communication among the neighbors on the same floor. As a result, some fear a common feeling of oppression arising from unfamiliarity and dislocation.
    As to me, city life is enjoyable despite its demerits. Therefore, what we should do is to change our thoughts on urban construction and development,emphasizing public participation in planning and building. More importantly, every city should be encouraged to be unique with its own characteristics and culture so as to cater for the residence requirement.
