    Nowadays more and more people are involved in volunteer service, which is characteristic of modem civilization. Some people volunteer to help the poor, the disabled and the lonely senior citizens. They are ready to help those who are in need of help. And such activities greatly better the social atmosphere and bring about remarkable social gains. Others actively participate in the voluntary work of planting trees, clearing rubbish along the seaside or wiping out the wild advertisements in the streets, which contributes to the improvement of the city environment and adds beauty to it.
    I personally regard volunteer service as my obligation and take active part in it. On weekends I often go to an orphanage to care for those children who are homeless. Sometimes I join my friends in giving advice to help middle school students. During last year’s International Fashion Festival I volunteered to be a tourist guide for the foreign visitors. Being a member of the huge volunteer army, I feel my life is more meaningful and colorful.
