W: Hi, Mike. I’m going to give a presentation on Winston Churchill. And I remember you are very good at history, so I come here to ask for some information.
M: Ok. First let me know what you’ve already got in your head.
W: Generally, I get to know that Winston Churchill was famous as a soldier, a politician and a writer. So you have a lot to say about Churchill.
M: He was also a painter of merit, by the way.
W: How do you think he found time for all these activities?
M: He was a man of many talents and had a long career. I still remember that he lived to be 90. He was born in 1874 and died in 1965.
W: He started his career as a soldier, didn’t he?
M: Yes, he joined the Army as a young man and became outstanding both as a soldier and as a correspondent in India and Africa. His political career started when he was elected to Parliament at the age of 26 and remained for most of his life, except when he was out of office.
W: When did he first take up painting?
M: When he was already past 40. He was out of office from 1929 to 1939 and it was during these periods that he found happiness in painting and writing,
W: I guess it was during that time that he produced some of his finest literary works.
M: Yes, and then in 1940 came the great challenge. It was as prime minister during the Second World War that he proved his great ability for leadership. His premiership from 1940 to 1945 was perhaps the greatest that the U. K. has ever known. His name became a household word throughout the world.
W: I think I have enough information now. Thanks a lot.
