The value of higher education has been doubted by some Chinese parents and students, because with the expansion of university, undergraduate students are not the beloved ones in ivory tower any more. It is difficult for the graduates to find a job, and they often earn even less than the so-called blue collar workers. What is more, most students spend their university time on playing computer games, surfing the net and dating, instead of studying. What is your opinion? Is going to college worth it? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

Why Not Go to College?
Each year, millions of undergraduates leave the educational assembly line for society. In the job market, however, due to shortage of practical skills, they are often out-competed by technical workers, and receive a less satisfying salary. The pride of holding a college diploma is then gradually extinguished by reality. The value and even necessity of higher education is also called into question. In my opinion, one way or another, going to college will eventually pay off.
First of all, higher education indeed offers students a platform for self-improvement, especially for those who are from poor areas. In universities, various majors are provided and accessible to everyone, regardless of one’s social and financial background. Students can choose one major they take great interest in and get proficient at it. College education enables students to become deliberate learners capable of formulating their own perspectives on issues, helps them to explore new horizons and transforms them into mature persons.
Besides, university also functions as a transitional phase or buffer time for students to strengthen their interpersonal skills. Regarded as a microcosm of society, a university is filled with people of every description. By interacting with different people, students can learn how to position themselves among the crowd, how to communicate and cooperate with others. As an educational organization, it is to some extent shielded from the evil cruelty in the harsh realities, enabling students to learn, to work and to experience without much pressure and certainly free from a boss breathing down our neck.
Finally, college bestows a precious life experience upon students, for which there is no substitute. There exists a philosophy that "if you eventually end up working for a company, why waste four years doing something irrelevant or unhelpful at all?" In my opinion, there is a lifetime to work and make money, but when youth leaves, it leaves for good. Without a college experience, you might be looking back on your life with certain regrets wondering "what if". Some beautiful memories might be missing-memories of caring roommates who planned a surprise birthday for you, of an annoying professor who enjoyed checking attendance, of the basketball court where you used to get drenched in sweat.
There are many things in life that cannot be measured by financial rewards. Going to college offers infinite opportunities for self-improvement, provides a channel to develop the ability of interpersonal communication, and bestows precious experiences and memories that worth treasuring. Why not go to college?
