   Nowadays almost all the people on Earth have the access to TV. It has become an important part in our lives. It is not only a convenient, but a cheap source of information. People can know almost everything around the world just by pressing a button. TV has the advantages of being informative, educational and entertaining. However, as more and more people reckon watching TV as their major after-work entertainment and more and more children are fascinated with watching TV, people are beginning to realize the negative effects of TV on their lives.
   Firstly, TV has negative effects on viewers’ physical health. When watching TV, once fascinated by the programs, viewers tend to fix their eyes on the television all the time without giving their eyes a rest for hours. This activity can destroy their eyesight, especially children’s. For children, their eyes are still in growth. Watching too much TV can cause bad eyesight for the rest of their lives. A research conducted by scientists in China reveals that a kid watches five hours of TV a day in a year, his eyesight will drop from 1.5 to 0.5 degrees. Besides, watching TV too much and doing less or no outdoor exercises can lower people’s immunity to diseases. They will be easily attacked by such diseases as influenza, adiposity, varicosity coming in succession.
   Secondly, TV also has negative effects on people’s behaviors.  Television is an open space, from which people can watch whatever programs they’re interested in. But the question is that today’s TV programs are flooded with too much violence and dirty things. People’s behaviors are being influenced unconsciously by those things presented in television programs. his is especially so for young juveniles, because they have difficulty in making a clear distinction  between right and wrong, reality and fantasy. Once addicted to the violence shown on TV, they are prone to imitate it, which could be quite dangerous.
   Thirdly, watching TV too much can cause psychological problems. Television is both an open space and a closed one, the latter cutting the viewers from the real world. Spending too much time in that world, people will get used to the feelings of being isolated from the outside world. This may cause such a psychological disease as autism, which will result in difficulty in living a normal life.
   In conclusion, though television serves the functions of entertaining people and informing its viewers of different kinds of things, we cannot neglect its negative effects on our life. So, for that pastime, we have to control ourselves as how much to watch and what to watch.
