问题 What’s Harold’s interest while he’s practising law? [br]
W: Hi, Harold. Welcome to today’s program.
M: I’m glad I have the opportunity to be here.
W: What’s your special interest while you’re practising law?
M: (7)I’m particularly interested in striving for the rights of the handicapped.
W: Harold, you’re quite popular now, but do you find it is quite difficult for you to become a success in your career?
M: Absolutely. (8)As a blind man it was even more difficult for me to get a job as a lawyer in the beginning. I was turned down by over forty law firms. They thought it’s impossible for a blind person to practise law, even though my qualifications included good ranking in my Harvard Law School.
W: Then what’s the turning point for people to change their views of limitation and exclusion?
M: That’s on April 16th, 1976. (9) The Department of Labor issued regulations that mandate equal-employment opportunities for the handicapped. So, the business community has become enthusiastic to offer employment to the disabled. The employment opportunities for the handicapped have been improving since then.
W: That’s great! What’s your hope for the employers to treat their handicapped workers?
M: (10)I hope they will not show lust sympathy to their handicapped employees, but the important thing is to consider them as functional as the able-bodied and treat them no differently.
W: OK, Harold. Thanks for your time.
M: My pleasure.
