What did they talk about yesterday? [br]
M: We talked a lot about gymnastics yesterday. What do you think of other types of sport like mountaineering, skiing and so on?
W: I suppose athletics, including boxing and wrestling, must be one of the oldest forms of sport in existence. The Greeks went in for these sports with great enthusiasm and their Olympic
Games included most of the sports we go in for today.
M: Except the more modem games like footballs and cricket, which became popular only in the last century.
W: Yes, that’s true. Mountaineering and skiing are comparatively recent sports too, aren’t they?
M: And so are motor-racing and cycling.
W: But the Greeks and the Romans went in for chariot races, which were rather like our motor races.
M: What about country sports? Do you like them?
W: Do you mean sports like hunting, shooting and fishing?
M: Yes.
W: I don’t approve of killing animals for sport. And I don’t approve of boxing and bull-fighting either. I don’t call these real sports.
M: Lots of people would disagree with you!
W: No doubt, but I still don’t like them.
M: What about aquatic sports? Do you like sailing?
W: Yes, it’s a marvelous sport! I also like swimming and I’m very fond of rowing. For me the great sporting event of the year is the Boat Race. I watch that every year with great enthusiasm.
M: So do I.
选项
A、The Olympic Games didn’t include old sports.
B、Football became popular in the 18th century.
C、The Romans were the first to take up motor races.
D、Lots of people approved of country sports.
答案
D
解析
事实推断题。该题可以用排除法作答,对话中明确提到“their Olympic Games included most of the sports we go in for today”,排除A;紧接着对话中有“Except the more modern games like football and cricket, which became popular only in the last century”,这里的last century应该是19或20世纪,故排除B;根据文中“But the Greeks and the Romans went in for chariot races.which were rather like our motor races.”可知选项C中只提到罗马人最先开始进行这个项目是不全面的,故排除答案C。
