答案                 The Impact of the Internet on Communication
The Internet is a database full of information and offers us a lot of services, sometimes for free. Via the Internet, stockjobbers get the latest quotations on the stock exchange; students read online reference books and dictionaries instead of going to the library; housewives search and place orders for the needed goods at home. Of all the influences that the Internet has left on our life, its impact on communication is the most strongly felt.
To begin with,  the wide use of the Internet is making e-mails replace traditional letters. Traditional letters usually take a few days to reach the addressees,  and sometimes may get lost in post offices.   Moreover, when mailing a transnational letter, you have to pay considerable postage.   However, you can avoid all these problems by using e-mails.   E-mails are much faster and often lor free;  your addressee can get it instantly wherever he or she is. You can also add files to your e-mail, which makes big data transfer possible. With these advantages, e-mails are gaining more and more popularity among netizens.
Besides, the Internet enables people to create new social contacts all over the world.  By setting up virtual communities, the web can bring friends to the disabled who cannot go out to find them in the real life.  Sometimes it is also easier for shy speakers to chat with a person who they do not know. It also does not matter if you have a terrible appearance because you can pretend to be whatever you want.  You can also fabricate your gender and your age to talk about topics which you do not normally do.
Last, the Internet provides users with an alternative form of meeting—online meeting. Imagine that a university wants to hold a public meeting but does not have a hall big enough for its student body; imagine that a transnational company needs to train his staff in different parts of the world at the same time. In both cases, the difficulty can be overcome by means of online videoconference. This form of meeting is even more important in the medical sector. It makes it possible for doctors from all over the world to join in one operation. Specialists elsewhere can give tips and help other doctors to complete their operation successfully, and the patient does not have to wait until a specialist comes from afar.
From the above analysis, we may arrive at the conclusion that the Internet helps us to communicate beyond the limitations of time and space. It has enriched our life, expanded our vision, and transformed the world into a global village.
