答案                 The Microblog Assignment: Good or Bad?
The freshmen of Media Department in Nanjing University were assigned with a quite unique task: the students each are required to open a microblog, and by the end of the semester, they will be graded according to the number of "followers" , i. e. fans they attract. If a student wants to pass this course, he or she needs at least 500 followers; to get a "Good" , one needs 2 ,000 followers; and to squeeze in the " Outstanding" league, one must earn 3 ,000 followers and more. This " Microblog Assignment" was soon spread around, and has given rise to a public debate. People have different views on the purpose of this experiment and its outcome. Some netizens praised it "brilliant" , and commented that microblog is a great personal media for students to practice their ability to promote.
However, there are also a lot of skeptics about the assignment. The idea that students are graded by how many followers they get on the microblog is particularly challenged. It is generally believed that the number of fans is nothing but one simple indicator of the overall quality, and not a scientific approach to assess students’ abilities. Since there is already an overload of useless information on the Internet, some worry that it might usher another platform for gossiping, or boring detailed personal information, thus breeding a group of narcissists who think that they need to share every bit of their life to the world. What’s more, in order to attract the eyeballs, students may tweet exaggerated or even false information, blurring the lines between what is real news and what are convincing untruths. Fact-checking is integral to the integrity of news sources, when the media starts relying on the microblog, however, those who fact-check will be left behind and feel it a disadvantage.
Seen from my point of view, the microblog assignment is a revolutionary teaching experiment. The microblog uses new resources to provide information fast, so students get an alternative approach for acquiring information.  And as they could get in touch with many celebrities on Microblog, it is a good way to dig deep scoops through it.   Students also become familiar with basic  editing procedures by tweeting.   In addition, there are endless possibilities to use the microblog in creating and publishing.
However, students need more guidance and more regulations on their posting behavior, for instance, adopting a more appropriate and reasonable grading system by taking account of factors including popularity, subject and originality of content, time-sensitiveness, response rate and forwarding rate. In this way, the students will use the microblog more reasonably and be assessed more comprehensively.
