After graduating from colleges, most graduates have to face a difficult choice of where to find a job. Should university graduates choose jobs in large modern cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou? People have different ideas. Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your view on the issue.
Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.
YES
In big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, young people can have many more opportunities than in small towns. Those big cities are usually economically developed areas in China, and therefore many Chinese and international companies choose to do business there. For young university graduates, they can have far more chances to find a promising job in big cities.
If college graduates choose to work in big cities, they can have opportunities to get in touch with elites in every field. Many forums and international meetings are held in big cities, providing great opportunities for young people to enrich their knowledge and renovate their thinking. Living and working in big cities can broaden their horizon.
In modern big cities, one’s ability is far more important than his family background. As long as one is diligent and hard-working, he can build up a bright future by himself.
NO
Big cities like Beijing and Shanghai are the most developed areas in China, but at the same time, the living cost there is also too high to afford. Although the salary in big cities is higher than that in small towns, the cost is even higher.
The competition in big cities is too fierce, and the pace of life there is too fast for people to bear. In some top 500 companies, it is quite common for employees to work till night. In order to get promotion, young people have to face greater pressure, and therefore both their mental and physical health is often facing threats.
If graduates choose to work in small cities or towns, their salary may not be that high, but they can live a healthy and normal life. Instead of working overtime, they can relax themselves on the weekend, such as going outdoors and attending gatherings.

Bright Future in Big Cities
When it comes to the vast pool of young and underemployed college graduates, they are really on the horns of a dilemma of choosing a proper place to start their career. To choose a modern big city like Beijing or Shanghai, or to stay in a small town, is a tough question. Some graduates prefer big cities for the metropolises remain a strong appeal to them with the multitudinous opportunities. Small towns, in some other graduates’ opinion, create a comfortable work environment.
In my point of view, I believe youth is for us to strive, and there is no better place for us to do so than big cities. Firstly, although the working condition in big cities is far more arduous, we can still give full play to our initiative. As long as we keep making efforts toward our dreams, we will surely enjoy a rosy future. If graduates can weather the initial difficult situations, what they embrace will be a strong mind to overcome more difficulties, which is a very important element for them to succeed in the future. Secondly, in big cities, there are more chances for graduates to improve themselves. Once they seize the chance, their sweat and tears will get rewarded. Lastly, owing to the fact that many companies and organizations at home and abroad are situated in highly developed cities, young graduates are more likely to widen their intellectual horizons in big cities.
In conclusion, I strongly hold that it is better for graduates to choose a job in big cities. The abundant opportunities there will enable young people to exploit their potential and realize their dreams. Although life in big cities may be more difficult and arduous, all the efforts and hardship will be paid off if we are determined to seize the opportunities.
