Should I Work for a Big or Small Company?
Bigger companies can open lots of new doors for you: you may find it easier to specialize in one role or skillset, and then move up within the company. In general, these opportunities derive from the fact that larger companies tend to have a firmly established structure for everyday operations. A solid set of traditions provides stability, so you’ll know where you stand right from the get-go. This means that your job function will likely be quite clearly defined. Such clarity can be beneficial, as it will allow you to specialize and hone your skills, making you an expert in a particular area.
Even if you’re trading in for a smaller company, you will still encounter plenty of exciting opportunities. Before you accept the position, you should keep in mind that smaller businesses often have room for a more unified workplace culture. However, it’s important to make sure you connect with the people and the established culture while you’re still in the process of exploring the job. In small companies, workplace culture weighs heavily on job satisfaction. Once you’ve taken the plunge, prepare to face assignments beyond your specific job description. With fewer people around to pick up slack, you’ll likely be responsible for a wider variety of tasks than you were at a bigger company. A more flexible job description also means that you can take charge and be more entrepreneurial overall. You may be able to integrate your personal passions into your day to day work, or customize your path by expanding your responsibilities into new areas of the business.

Is It Better to Work for a Big or Small Company?
Upon graduation, hunting for a job is the most important life decision that college students should make: however, choosing the right job is not easy. Weighing up the pros and cons of working for a big or small company is not an unfamiliar task for most of us. When it comes to this question, different people come up with different answers depending on their personal outlooks. Some prefer to work in a big company, taking a fancy to its enormous room for promotion, formal management structures as well as strict working procedures. On the contrary, others maintain that small companies are better at fostering all-round talents as they will be involved in a variety of assignments.
There is some truth in both arguments, but I take the view that serving in a small company is a better choice. For one thing, in a small company, I am more likely to be required to master and apply different skills and knowledge, especially in start-ups, thus prompting me to keep learning and make progress. Secondly, I can be exposed to more chances of promotion as what I have done can be seen by everyone, which makes it easier to distinguish myself. Last but not least, working arrangements in a small company are more agile as I am able to directly voice my viewpoints without days or weeks of submission and approval processes which are common in a big company.
Above all, both small companies and big companies have their own advantages. Taking my personal growth and career development into consideration, I will make a choice to work in a small company upon graduation.
