问题     Should people look for resources of oil and gas in remote and untouched areas with the increasing demand of them? This has been an intensely discussed question for years. The following are the supporters’ and opponents’ opinions. Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and then give your view on the issue.

    YES
Remoteness and transport occlusion severely restrict the economic development of remote regions. The exploitation of fossil fuels can promote the modernization of transportation, which will contribute to the economic growth of remote areas.
If fossil fuels in remote areas are exploited, then its economy will be significantly improved. The service sector in remote areas will start getting its booming opportunity because there will be more people in need of more services, such as food, drinks and entertainment.
Exploiting fossil fuels in unexploited areas can improve the local residents’ living conditions.
    NO
A distinct problem emerging from exploiting fossil fuels in remote areas is the further deterioration of the survival environment in these areas. Undeniably, local ecological system and environment will suffer a lot.
Most countries invest a great deal of funds every year to work out environmental issues such as air contamination and water pollution caused by utilizing fossil fuels. If the funds could be spent on developing and using alternative energy, those environmental issues would be curbed.
To cope with the rising energy demands, the application of alternative resources of energy may be a well-established path. It is one of the best options to make residential areas cleaner and safer.

答案     My View on Exploitation of Energy Resources
Nowadays, many countries are coping with huge energy shortfalls since a growing economy raises demand for power. Some countries intend to cover the gap by exploiting fossil fuels in remote and untouched areas, which can develop the local transportation and economy as well. Nevertheless, this idea has met with fierce opposition because of its devastating environmental effect on local areas and the increasing financial burden on governments.
Personally I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons. In the first place, energy shortage has indeed restricted the economic development at present, not to mention the future, but we cannot simply sacrifice the environment in exchange for temporary economic gain. In the second place, to look for the resources of oil and gas in unexploited areas is neither the sole nor the best approach to solve global energy shortage. Energy saving as well as a shift to other fuels can reduce oil consumption. Last but not least, currently renewable energy technology is a fringe business due to its low efficiency and high cost, but its adoption has drawn greater attention for its low pollution and contribution to meeting our energy needs.
All in all, encouraging energy efficiency and the use of new alternatives can help relieve energy shortage.
