Which one below is correct? [br]
Fertility rates in the United States are continuing their decades-long decline, due in large part to a steep slide in teenage pregnancies down to historic lows, according to a new government report released Thursday. The report only examined the trajectory of pregnancy rates through 2009, stopping there because more recent data on abortions is not available yet. But newer statistics on birth rates suggest the decline is continuing, though not as quickly as it did in recent years when the recession accelerated trends well underway.
Max Baucus, the influential Democratic senator from Montana, is set to become the next US ambassador to China. " It’s an interesting ’ pick’ in the sense that security competition with China is heating up and he doesn’t have much of a record on security issues," said Dan Blu-menthal, director of Asian studies at the American Enterprise Institute. While Baucus will certainly get up to speed, he’s probably less likely than his predecessors to interfere with the White House and the Pentagon on military or political issues.
选项
A、US government has absolute trust in Baucus.
B、The pick may enable the White House to take more control of the US-China relationship.
C、Baucus is incompetent in the position.
D、Baucus is predicted to be stronger in ability than his predecessors.
答案
B
解析
新闻中指出Max Baucus将成为美国下一任驻华大使,提到“提名鲍卡斯是个有趣的(选择),毕竟中美安全竞赛愈演愈烈,而鲍卡斯在安全问题上并没有什么经验”,最后指出虽然鲍卡斯定会恶补安全事务,但“he’s probably less likely than his predecessors to interfere with the White House and the Pentagon on military or political issues”,可见Max Baucus出任驻华大使可能使白宫对中美关系拥有更多控制权。故B项正确。
