M: I think boarding schools can provide best education for children.
W: I’m afraid I can’t agree. It’s cruel,with so many children shut up together.
M: Well, all kids complain about having to go to school. (23) But they should be aware of problems that may arise so that they can face them and learn how to overcome them.
W: What do you mean? Those boarding schools prepare them for the real world? No! Kids there live in an artificial society, and when they encounter true problems in real life they are taken aback and don’t know what to do.
M: They might face some problems, but these experiences help them build up their personality little by little. They meet other kids and learn how to deal with them every day.
W: They could learn that way at home, with their parents, their relatives, even neighbors. But parents today are more concerned about leading a life of their own. Many children in the States, for example, are brought up by baby-sitters.
M: How come they can rely on baby-sitters? Do they get to somehow know them, before hiring them?
W: People just trust them. (24) Baby-sitters in most areas are provided with a place and a car of their own,and they take the children to school every day. It proves once again parents today are either less responsible, or too busy or too selfish to care about their children’s education.
M: And this brings us back to the beginning: boarding schools can do better than baby-sitters.
W: (25) This is not the issue, Bill. Neither boarding schools nor baby-sitters can give kids the warmth and the protection they need to develop into self-assured, confident and respectful members of society.
23. What does the man say about children attending boarding schools?
24. What does the woman say about parents hiring babysitters?
25. What does the woman say about boarding schools and babysitters?
选项
A、Parents usually don’t trust babysitters.
B、Babysitters are usually not asked to send kids to schools.
C、Parents who leave kids to babysitters are irresponsible.
D、Parents usually know babysitters well before hiring them.
答案
C

女士认为父母们对保姆过于信任。很多地方的家庭让保姆每天送孩子上学。这也证明现在的父母由于种种原因而不关心孩子的教育。由此可见,女士认为父母把孩子托给保姆是不负责任的表现。故答案为C)。
