    Many Chinese college students find it awkward to describe their English language skills. For at least six years as most of them have learned it, they can only read and understand English but cannot speak it well, that is to say, they become mute when it is time for them to communicate in English.

Chinese students regard English as nothing more than a test subject, so there is no need to waste much time in practicing it orally. In addition, Chinese students are afraid of making mistakes when speaking English, so they would rather keep quiet.
