M: How about going for a hike this afternoon?
W: Gee, I don’t know. I’ve got a history test at the end of the week and I haven’t started studying yet.
M: Do you have notes from the class?
W: As a matter of fact, I have very good notes. I sat in the front row, so I could hear every detail.
M: Well, that means you probably have a pretty good idea what will be on the test.
W: Yeah, I’m fairly confident we will be concentrating on the development of the western states. We read the diaries of some early settlers from different backgrounds.  Comparing different people’s experiences provides a very broad view, but it’s also difficult to remember all the material.
M: That sounds interesting. How about this: we can skip the hike and just go for a quick walk in the park. You know, just something to get your mind off studying for a little while. Then you can approach your notes with a fresh outlook later on tonight. And after we go for a walk, we can stop off for some hamburgers and French fries. After that I’ll give you a ride to the library. I have a paper coming up and I can get some research done.
W: Well, I guess it would be a good idea to do something besides studying for a while. And I will have to stop to eat anyway.
M: Great, I’ll go change my shoes and we can leave in ten minutes.
W: Okay, and thanks for inviting me.
