There are two major fuels presently being used, these are coal and diesel fuel. A number of these power stations are converting to gas, but many of the newer stations are now adopting nuclear fission as their heat source. Nuclear power stations continue to be a controversial subject from their safety point of view and the question of how to dispose of the radioactive waste, resulting from the spent fuel.
