    In recent years, China has witnessed rapid growth in tourism. The economy of tourist areas is largely driven by scenic spots. Many are concerned that too much tourism may cause grave harm to the environment.
    Tourism may harm the environment in many ways. One of the examples is that in order to attract tourists, large patches of woods are eliminated to build accommodation facilities as well as artificial scenic spots. Worse still, too many people crowding into scenic spots will break the ecological balance of these areas. Moreover, tourists often litter everywhere, which brings about great pressure on the environment protection.
    All in all, overdeveloped tourism will damage the environment in many ways. So it is unwise to sacrifice the environment for the unreasonably rapid growth if tourism, and there should be a balance between tourism development and environment protection.
