    My name is Li Ming, a member from the 21st Century English Club. I am writing to invite you to attend the Freshman Gathering held by our club as the guest speaker. We would be delighted to have such a well-known linguist as you to be our guest of honour.
    The Freshman Gathering will be held at the Lotus Hall in Yifu Building at 6:00 pm on November 23rd. The gathering aims at providing some guidance for the freshmen. We would very much like you to give us the opening address and answer a few questions from the freshmen.
    It would be much appreciated if you could let me know if you can make it as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you at the gathering.
