Your hometown
My hometown is a large town on the coast. It has a population of just over 100,000. It attracts tourists most of the year, but there are rarely too many of them. It is an administrative centre and has a stadium and a university. The centre has many office buildings.
The oldest part of the town is by the sea. It extends along the coast for about two kilometres and inland for about one kilometre. There are still many old buildings there that have been maintained. Many of them are hundreds of years old. There is a fort overlooking the old port, where people keep their boats. The more modem commercial port is further down the coast.
It has changed a lot over the last fifty years, but not so much in the last ten or twenty. During the last fifty years, the town has grown a lot with the addition of new residential areas inland. The commercial port was built about forty years ago and that increased the number of businesses in the town. In more recent years, the number of tall office buildings and hotels has increased and has changed the skyline. There has been a big increase in the number of vehicles in the town and the local government recently banned heavy vehicles from using certain roads and banned cars from the historical centre completely.
Meals
My favourite meal is dinner. I like to go out with family of friends for a meal at a restaurant in the historic part of town. It is fairly quiet and the atmosphere is nice. Sometimes, I even miss lunch so that I can enjoy an extra-large dinner! I usually eat quite a big breakfast though.
I usually eat sandwiches that I make for myself at home in the mornings. There’s a canteen at my workplace, but I don’t like the food there very much and it is a little expensive.
I do eat snacks, but I have two good meals each day and a smaller lunch. If I have a snack, I try to eat some fruit. Apples and bananas are my favourites! I have to admit that I don’t always eat a healthy snack and it is not unusual to find me eating a bar of chocolate or biscuits.
I think that breakfast is the most important—even though I prefer dinner. A good breakfast helps prepare a person for a day of work or study, in my opinion. I have read magazine articles that say this too. I don’t think lunch is important, because you can always have a larger meal in the evening to compensate.
Drawing and painting
I can’t paint at all, but I can draw reasonably well. When I was a teenager, I enjoyed it very much, but now I don’t draw much at all. I like going to art galleries—there are several good small ones in my hometown.
I draw something ... oh, I don’t know ... maybe ... once or twice a month, not more than that. As I said, I don’t paint at all.
I think most kids like drawing and painting and I was no exception. I used to draw people, building and scenery. As a teenager, I would often spend part of the weekend sitting outside drawing. When I was a child, my paintings were awful! I recently found a few hidden away in a box—they were unrecognisable! I mean, you can’t even tell which is the top and which is the bottom!
I think they both are. I think that painting is more difficult than drawing though.
