答案     An achievement test is different from a proficiency test usually in two ways. Firstly, the aims are different. An achievement test is intended to show the attainment the student has reached in relation to other students at the same stage in a certain period of learning; while a proficiency test focuses on the student’s ability to apply what he has learnt in actual situations. Secondly, the standards are different. An achievement test is designed based on different situations, varying from course to course or from period to period; while a proficiency test is independent of any particular course or period, but assesses the student’s proficiency, or overall skills, in relation to his future needs.
