问题     The nuclear leak in Japan has triggered debates around nuclear energy across the globe. Some people are supporters of nuclear power, while others are against it. What is your opinion? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.
In the first part of your writing you should state clearly your main argument, and in the second part you should support your argument with appropriate details. In the last part you should bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or make a summary.
Marks will be awarded for content, organization, grammar and appropriateness. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.

答案                     Should We Develop Nuclear Power?
It was completely unforeseen that Japan would have to face the current serious crisis: a continuous nuclear leak following the devastating 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami. This crisis has triggered hot nuclear debates among international communities, and even ordinary people. Some of them show their support for the development of nuclear power. Others are skeptical of atomic energy for its devastating potential. For my part, I agree with the latter point of view. The reasons are presented below.
To begin with, the safety of a nuclear plant being hard to guarantee, the use of nuclear power is a great risk. Some advocates hold that the rapid development of technology contributes a lot to the robustness and resilience of the nuclear plants, so that there is only a small chance of disasters like the Fukushima incident. However, this also illustrates the fragility and instability of the plants if affected by unexpected natural disasters, which may happen at any time and in any place. Therefore, nuclear power is risky and potentially devastating, with little guarantee of safety.
What is more, a nuclear crisis could have dire and long-lasting consequences on human beings and the entire environment. Once a nuclear leak occurred, huge amounts of radioactive materials are released into the environment, which may do enormously harm to the health of our human beings by causing chronic bone, lung or blood diseases or even cancer. At the same time, retroactive elements would pollute a large area with a very long-time negative effect. Taking the Fukushima incident as an example, it is estimated that almost 11,500 tons of contaminated water has already been released into the Pacific Ocean.
Last but not least, although nuclear energy is efficient, it is not much better than other "green energy" like solar, wind and water powers which are also eco-friendly, renewable but less hazardous. As opposed to the clean natural resources mentioned above, the use of nuclear power produces nuclear waste, a danger to the environment, for which the current disposal technology is not yet mature enough. Therefore, in the long run, the development of natural power rather than nuclear energy would be more beneficial to the harmonious existence of human and environment.
To sum up, nuclear power, though efficient, low-cost and renewable, is not a good choice to alleviate the energy crisis caused by the decreasing availability of fossil fuels. Without the guarantee of safety, a potential nuclear crisis would lead to devastating consequences, as is illustrated by the Fukushima incident. With the development of science and technology, instead of nuclear power, such natural energy as solar, wind, water powers should become the better choice for their efficiency, safety, sustainability and eco-friendliness.
