International donors gathered in Brussels have responded generously to Yugoslavia one day after the country’s surrender of former President Slobodan Milosevic to the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague. As VOA Correspondent Roger Wilkison reports, donor countries and institutions have pledged one-point-28-billion dollars in reconstruction aid to Yugoslavia for the remainder of the year.
    The amount pledged exceeded Yugoslavia’s target by about 30-miUion dollars. The funds will be used to rebuild an economy that was shattered by a decade of mismanagement, war, and international isolation.
    The European Union and the World Bank, the meeting’s organizers, hailed Yugoslavia’s economic reform program as being a decisive factor in fueling donors’ enerosity. The EU’s Catherine Day says Belgrade can be assured of the international community’s continuing support.
