答案     There are pros and cons to mandatory PE classes. Those who support the idea believe that required PE classes help students develop good exercise habits, thus resulting in healthier lifestyle. They also believe that playing team sports teaches students how to win and lose with good grace and builds a strong sports spirit through competition. Last, gifted athletes can also be discovered in school sport.
    However, those who oppose the idea think that mandatory PE classes limit students’ freedom to choose where they want to invest their time. They also argue that taking PE classes won’t develop one’s health greatly but will waste a great deal of money and time that could be better spent on academic lessons. What’s worse, injuries sustained through school sport and the psychological trauma of being bullied for sporting ineptitude can mark people for years even after they have left school.
    In my opinion, many people are aware of the benefits of exercising, but not all of them will take action. If PE classes become an optional subject, not many students would take them because they are less likely to spend time on courses that would not help their academic achievement. This would be against the original purpose of the class. Therefore, PE classes in schools should be made compulsory.
