    Driven by economic benefits, many people are cutting down trees and replace them with economic crops. The short-sighted action might gain them some quick money, but in the end, they will suffer the consequences, resulted from deforestation. To save our forests, I think we should enact more stringent laws and develop a modern agriculture industry.
    First of all, the punishment of illegal logging should be more severe. In China, it is reported that illegal logging could be punished by financial penalty, to the amount 5-10 times of the value of the tree. In Holland, however, logging trees illegally may face up to 2-year imprisonment and a fine of 79,000 Euros. From this comparison, we can see that Chinese laws and regulations about protecting trees could be more serious by increasing fines and imprisonment. Secondly, to discourage people from felling trees to make way for crops, we should develop a modern agriculture industry, featuring high efficiency and productivity. If we adopt new breeding and management technologies to increase the productivity per hectare, farmers will not cut down trees to make room for the economic crops.
    In conclusion, saving our forests depends on more serious laws and enhanced agriculture technology.
