Listen to the following passage. Altogether the passage will be read to you four times. During the first reading, which will be done at normal speed, listen and try to understand the meaning. For the second and third readings, the passage will be read sentence by sentence, or phrase by phrase, with intervals of 15 seconds. The last reading will be done at normal speed again and during this time you should check your work. You will then be given 1 minute to check through your work once more.

Oxford University has predicted that 35% of jobs in the UK workforce / are at risk from automation over the next 10 to 20 years. / But the researcher paints an optimistic picture of the way / technology has transformed work over the past 15 years. / As computers and robots learn how to do more tasks, / there is a threat to low-skilled workers. / Those earning under £30, 000 a year / are five times as likely to lose their jobs / as people earning over £100, 000. / And skills such as creativity and social intelligence will become valuable.
