    Years ago, to be a good college student simply meant to be good at academic work. On being admitted into a college or university, students usually work very hard just to "on top". Most of their campus time was spent in classrooms, reading rooms, and laboratories. Motivation was strong, single-minded concentration on study.
    But the criteria established to judge who is a good student are changing now. There is a growing number of students who are concerned much more about things other than academic achievement. They are trying to achieve versatility in such areas as community activities, acting, music and sports. Some students even become campus "businessperson" by starting up or serving in self-supporting businesses. They are usually regarded as good students.
    The changes that have taken place are, generally speaking, changes for the better. Times are different, and the job market demands personnel with a variety of skills. Therefore, the students today are, in a sense, better prepared for challenge and competition upon graduation.
