OK, everyone. This is the Baker Hill historic district, our tour’s main stop. Though not currently occupied, the district’s houses once belonged to famous statesmen and inventors. Each home has been beautifully restored by the town’s preservation architects. We’ll be joined shortly by Ken Sather, a well-known researcher and history professor at Foster College. After the tour, you can purchase handcrafted souvenirs at a gift stand. You may take photos inside the homes, but no flash is allowed. The district’s cobblestone sidewalks have numerous bumps and dips, so please mind your footing. Next to our bus you’ll see a historical marker. Let’s now take a moment to read it.
