   The recent debate about whether we should bring back the traditional Chinese characters indicates that more and more people begin to concern about our own culture. Frankly speaking, both the traditional and simplified Chinese characters can function well in our communication. But when it coines to the cuhural connotation,the traditional Chinese characters are more beneficial than those simplified ones.
   In the first place, the traditional Chinese characters were the fruit of the ancient Chinese people’s hard work. They spent thousands of years to improve the characters constantly until at last the characters can express their meanings correctly. It is beyond doubt that during the long history of perfecting the characters,they became so shapely and handsome and could carry so many cuhural meanings that they were good enoughto stand for the Chinese culture. In the world, the mention of China can always remind people of the picture of Chinese Dragon, with the character in its traditional form. And we often present our foreign friends with some Chinese calligraphy in the traditional Chinese characters. Apparently, traditional Chinese characters have become the symbol of China.
   In the second place, the traditional Chinese characters are more logical and conventional than those simplified ones. We all know that Chinese characters are square characters. Unlike those languages in Latinletters, each part of a character carries different meanings and they altogether make a unique meaning of a character. We call these parts radical components. In general, there is at least one radical component in one traditional character which has its special meaning. If we don’t know a traditional character, for example, bat can recognize each component of it, mostly we can reason the meaning, even the pronunciation of the character. While in a simplified character, it is a hit more difficult to do so because some of the components were replaced with another totally different one, during the process of the simplification, which can not indicate the original meanings. In terms of this aspect, the traditional ones are better than those simplified ones.
   What’s more, bringing back the traditional Chinese characters can help with the exchange between the mainland and Taiwan province. We know that people in Taiwan are used to traditional characters, ff we, the people in mainland, can learn to write and read the traditional Chinese characters, it will surely promote the cultural exchange between the two sides which will inevitably result in a common cultural direction. We can share more with each other and make a closer relationship through this bridge.
   To sum up, the traditional Chinese characters are more easily to demonstrate our Chinese spirit and soul. It might be quite reasonable to say that after bringing them back, we can really get more benefits.
