I didn’t call home. Mum thought I was busy and didn’t want to bother (烦扰) me. But I felt guilty (惭愧): I was spending all my time reading stories, and hadn’t done any homework or phoned home.
It is true that people never value what they already have. Before coming to Phillips Academy, every day I hoped that I would be accepted. But now I was here, I had forgotten all about my goals (追求).
I used to sleep 10 hours a day in China. But when I started at the Harvard Summer School, I went to bed later and later, I never thought about it seriously, but now when I look back upon the last three months, I understand that I was afraid to go to bed early.
At last I realized that if I let this pattern continue, I would become the loneliest person on campus. So I talked to my friends, and this helped a lot. Their positive attitudes (进取态度) encouraged me.
I started doing my homework. It had piled up so much during the last two weeks that I was sure to have a hard time. But I knew I would finish it; if not today, then tomorrow.
I hadn’t called home for two weeks. I needed to do that tonight. Life was full of tasks. Nothing would be achieved if I didn’t start now.
