The Hong Kong-based Internet and communications company said sales for this year climbed nearly 9 percent. Soft Tech Ltd. reported Monday that profit for the fiscal year ended March 31 swelled to 10 million dollars from 6.5 million dollars the previous year. Soft Tech has seen its fortunes improve in recent years with the popularity of the smart phone from Tri-star,lnc.
It said the increase was driven by a booming smart phone business that offset a special loss of 2 million dollars caused by the union strike two years ago.
Separately, Soft Tech said it had invested $3.5 million in U-Mart,lnc. which operates an online shopping service, offering fashion clothing. Soft Tech has also agreed to acquire 50 percent of the Taiwan subsidiary of U-Mart,lnc. to accelerate its expansion in Asia.
