     Report an Average Family Expenditure in America The table displays average family expenditure in America on certain items in the years 1957, 1967, and 1986.
     Food and housing are always the largest expenditures, although food fell by 3% and housing actually rose by 4% between 1957 and 1986. Fuel, light, and power have remained almost constant. Transport and communications have steadily risen by 7% from 1957 to 1986 while "Other goods and services" have fallen from 6%. To a lesser extent, alcoholic drink, tobacco, and clothing and footwear have all decreased while recreation, entertainment, and education and household goods and services have increased by a few percent.
     Most of the items in the table have been consistent parts of average expenditure from 1957 to 1986. Although the percentage of total expenditure of some items have altered more than others, overall, they have not changed drastically.
