    Nowadays, many teachers complain that students read fewer books than before because they spend more time surfing on the Internet and watching movies on DVD’s. So some people draw the conclusion that students today are less knowledgeable than before. In my opinion, students today are still knowledgeable although they read fewer books.
    First of all, with the development of science and technology, computer and DVD are available in common families and therefore large quantities of message can be accessed by students, which greatly boosts their knowledge level. Resources on the Internet is so abundant that students can search for everything they need. Without teachers’ help, the students today can also solve many problems in their study by using the Internet. Besides, materials that are related to their textbooks they learn can be downloaded at any time. Secondly, it is not enough for students to merely learn from books because society develops rather rapidly.  The message on the Internet is timely and up to date, which ensures that the students not only acquire knowledge at school but also know what has happened in the world. Last but not least, the Internet exhibits multi-cultural background of the world, and to understand it will facilitate students’ participation in global competition in the future.
    In a word, students today get much more knowledge than they did in the past in virtue of the Internet.
