答案     This spring Beijing, as well as eight provinces in the Northwest and North China, witnessed the strongest sandstorm in 10 years sweep across an area of 1. 4 million square kilometers. The sandstorm enveloped the city, cutting visibility to less than 100 meters. It’s high time that we did something to rescue the deteriorating environment.
    There are two main reasons for such foul weather. First, Beijing is drying to begin with, and it’s getting drier. And decades of deforestation to expand farmland have brought down the trees that blocked incoming sand, making drought worse and pushing the desert even closer to our city. Second, though the government and citizens have realized the grave-ness of the problem, and have begun a tree-planting program to reforest the land, little has been done to ensure the seedlings will survive, which greatly reduces the potential benefit of that program.
    To solve the problem, the government should make vigorous efforts to implement and monitor the Green Project, and meanwhile educate people about environment protection. On the other hand, the citizens should be more involved in protecting environment. With concerted efforts, we are sure to win the war against sandstorm.
