Computers are status symbols, even though most people in cities can buy them. I think they show that a person is up-to-date with the latest technology. The latest mobile phones are often considered extremely cool, so people will sometimes buy one, then discard it only a year later for a newer, cooler model. I sometimes wonder if that is how some people treat their boyfriends and girlfriends!
