I’ve heard lots of speeches, lectures, commentaries on various topics and issues throughout different stages of my life. Among them, the speech given by one of my primary school teachers on my farewell day in year 6 is the most influential one and I can still vividly recall it. The teacher who delivered the speech was Mr Mark Augustine. As students in year 6 who were about to leave the school, we didn’t quite get the true meaning of the farewell day. We knew that this was going to be our last day at this primary school and we would be starting our new life soon.
On that day, our parents were presented at the school and we enjoyed everything together. Mr Mark Augustine delivered the farewell speech. He stood on the rostrum and mentioned the funny things we’d done in the last 6 years. He talked about how a kid screamed loud at the sight of a cockroach, and how a kid in year 2 took a fancy to a girl, or how we chased each other on the hallways and many other interesting events.
He then moved on to topics that I still bear in mind. Topics like how study should always be our priority as we moved forward, how we should listen to our parents, how we should respect Mother Nature and all the honesty and bravery we should have. The topics and his presentation inflamed our enthusiasm. I can still remember how his speech encouraged me. For a kid, maybe those advice and morality were too difficult to understand, but I still believe that the speech has a great impact on, all of us.
