China is to send its top negotiator on North Korea’s nuclear program to Pyongyang next week amid international concern over the launch of seven missiles.
    While the United States and its ally Japan push for tough action against North Korea, China is advocating dialogue, not sanctions.
    Also, the Russian ambassador to Japan says sanctions on North Korea will undermine efforts to bring the secluded state back to six-way talks on its nuclear program.
    North Korea abandoned the six-party talks in November 2005 after Washington imposed financial sanctions for alleged counterfeiting and money laundering activities.
    A broadcast on North Korean State Television confirmed the missile tests, in what it called a "successful military exercise".
    It said North Korea will take action against anyone who criticises them.
    The Minister is reported to have told a visiting Japanese politician that the missile launches were largely because of America’s sanctions against Pyongyang.
    North Korea remains defiant in the face of international condensation and has warned further tests could be carried out.
    UN Security Council members will resume discussions tonight on whether a draft resolution condemning the missile launches should call for sanctions.
