Each year alcoholism kills 40,000 Americans. It costs our country over ＄80 billion. It is implicated in 30 percent of suicides and 46 percent of teen suicides and is a factor in one of four hospital admissions. No wonder it has long been decried as not far removed from original sin.

Broadly speaking, there was a time when books were hand-printed on rare leather by monks. The only people who could read them were priests, who got a regular eyeful of the really cool cartoons the monks drew in the margins.
