                              The Advantage of Reading

   Do you know the most popular pastime in the world is reading? Now there are various kinds of books available and we can learn lots of things from them. Books become the main source of knowledge we obtain. There’re about three advantages in reading as follows:
   First, books provide us with various aspects of knowledge We can learn physics, chemistry, mathematics and philosophy etc from books. These are all necessary to us, as we are in an age of accelerating change, everyday new knowledge and ideas emerge, and without the scientific knowledge, we will feel at a loss and be driven out of the modern society. Suppose you lack the basic knowledge of computers, how can you manage to communicate with others and find a profitable job? Without all this knowledge, a person can’t live a better life in the modem world.
   Second, reading books makes us understand the world more deeply. As English philosopher Francis Bacon says, histories make men wise; poets witty; the mathematics, subtle; natural philosophy, deep; moral, grave; logic and rhetoric, able to contend. Almost all the wisdom of mankind is passed down through books. Books are the best companion and the teacher to us, and, by reading them, we are made into philosophers or poets, to a greater or lesser degree, according to our respective power. So the great variety of books prepares you to have a better life in the world. If your minds are filled with ideas and knowledge, you can step into the world confidently and peacefully.
   Third, reading is the most romantic and the interesting kind of traveling, for books surpass time and space. By reading, we can go as far as our imagination reaches. For instance, by reading, we can travel to the North Pole without having to endure the freezing cold; we can also go to the desert without having to fear the threat of thirst. We can also go back to the ancient times to have a look at the people’s life and have a talk with the past masters. By reading, our life is made longer and wider, merging into the great seas of the wisdom of mankind and play a part of our own.
   If reading becomes a part of your life, you will read the world more profoundly, widen the horizon of your understanding and elevate your mind. Your life will be full of wisdom, witness, subtleness and amusement. So reading makes you a full man.
