Iraqi government now says it is investigating the use of a camera phone to record the execution of former leader Saddam Hussein and how that footage was leaked to the Internet.
Government spokesman Ali AI-Dabbagh says mobile phones were banned in the chamber during last Saturday’s execution. But someone managed to sneak one in and captured Saddam’s final moments. A1- Dabbagh believes the footage was taken by one of the government ministry guards present at the execution. The footage was shot from below the scaffold showing Saddam falling to his death.  It also shows guards cheering and shouting slogans for a radical Shiite cleric. The footage circulated the Internet and the world. It sparked criticism of the Shiite-led government for the heisting manner in which Saddam was executed and it deepened the rift between Iraq’s Sunni and Shiite communities.  It has also generated sympathy for Saddam, elevating him to martyrdom in the eyes of many of his followers.
