The Best Way to Reduce Stress
In a world characterized by fierce competition, the rhythm of work and life is very fast. People have to work very hard. Therefore, more and more people suffer from a sense of frustration because they do not have proper ways of releasing the stress from work and life. Some people pick up drinking and smoking for relief; others turn to gambling, few even end up with violence towards others. None of those habits will make people better off. Then what should people do to reduce stress? I think following a satisfying hobby is the right remedy.
A hobby is something a person like to do in his spare time. Hobbyists raise flowers, keep pets, or do shopping. They also paint pictures, play musical instruments or participate in sports. They collect everything from stamps to stones, from coins to shells.
Hobbies help people rest well after a day’ s exhausting work. Some people tend to bring home their problems from work. That is actually no good for rest. Hobbies can help these people forget what happened at work and bring to their minds, with quiet and peace, the pleasure they can always find in the favorite activities. Hobbies provide a balance between work and play. When people are indulged in work, they easily feel stressed. Hobbies give them the vent to let the stress out. Some people are likely to take it out on their fellows. They say, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. No wonder that psychological experts have suggested that modern people take a hobby to cure the stress. What’ s more, hobbies can help people deal with stress from interpersonal relationship which is also a big problem for modern people. For one thing, the same hobbies bring people closer, as is well-acknowledged. More friends usually mean more listeners. For another, the pleasure people get from hobbies is helpful to make them ignore the inevitable stress from contacting mean people.
When Winston Churchill talked about his hobby, painting, he said, "To be really happy and really safe, one ought to have at least two or three hobbies. " I am sure his hobby must have helped him through numerous stresses. So as I said, hobbies are the best way of reducing stress.
