答案             Can Chinese Ancient Classics Improve Our Morality?
No one can deny the fact that Chinese ancient classics are treasure of national cultural heritage, and they normally reflect the social phenomena and problems based on which they are created. So many scholars highlight the significance of Chinese ancient classics’ study, and they support the view that Chinese ancient classics can improve our morality, but there are still some people deprecating the view above. Considering these two totally different arguments, I completely agree with the opinion that Chinese ancient classics can improve our morality by analyzing two main characters of our ancient classics.
Firstly, Chinese ancient classics possess the nature of philosophy. I conceive that to produce aesthetic characteristics of philosophy and to give pleasure are the highest ends of any ancient classic, because the philosophy and pleasure are produced from tonic art works. Chinese great thinker Lao Tzu is known for his work Tao Te Ching, and it can be said that the doctrine of Lao Tzu have influenced all the Chinese traditional culture. In his magnum opus, Lao Tzu raises the philosophical definition of Taoism, which reflects his piety to nature and natural law. Through reading and learning Too Te Ching, Chinese people prefer to obey the rules and regularize their behavior to avoid making mistakes, because they deeply understand that they are the human beings who live in an orderly world and should improve their morality by understanding and obeying the rules in this world. So there is no doubt that Chinese ancient classics can improve our morality.
Secondly, Chinese ancient classics possess the nature of education. The Analects is Confucius’ master work, in which his teachings and wisdom can be found. For example, there are some popular sentences that nearly all the Chinese people can recite, like the sentence " Look at nothing that is not consistent with the proprieties, listen to nothing that is not consistent with the proprieties. say nothing that is not consistent with the proprieties and to do nothing that is not consistent with the proprieties. " and the sentence " Do unto others as you would be done. " We have been taught to avoid doing the things which concern others’ privacy and to learn to see, to listen, to say and to do something in proper ways. And at the same time, we must consider the fact that it is immoral to impose your willingness on others. Under the guidance of these two philosophical sentences, we know how to control our behavior, which can absolutely improve our morality.
Through the analysis above, I can come to the conclusion that Chinese ancient classics can regularize and improve people’s behavior by philosophical and educational teachings, and thus, it plays an important role in our daily behavioral morality.
