问题 As a popular form of leisure and entertainment, travel is what many people look forward to when they are free. At the same time many tourist attractions do promotion to attract travelers by all means, as tourism supports local economic development by generating a large amount of revenue. The following is an article about tourism. Read it carefully and write an article of NO LESS THAN 300 words, in which you should:
  1.  summarize briefly the main idea of the article, and then
  2.  give your comment.
So many places in the world rely heavily on tourism as a key source of income and employment nowadays, as well as a way of showing off national and local heritage, plus perceived successes.
Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of problems too, especially if it is not managed correctly.
  Advantages of Tourism
It brings in money. This is probably the main advantage of tourism and the reason why it has been promoted so much in recent years in developing countries especially. Even in many developed countries, the income generated can make up a significant proportion of national income.
It provides jobs for the locals. Hotels, bars, transport, shops and restaurants all need staffing and tourism can provide much-needed employment for people.
It raises the profile of the place generally. Tourism gives a locality the chance to show itself off and raise its profile in the world.
It can provide an incentive for investment in infrastructure such as roads and rail networks, as well as funding local medical and education facilities.
Tourism can provide economic incentives for a place to preserve, regenerate, and upkeep their urban and wildlife areas.
  Disadvantages of Tourism
Tourists often cause environmental damage, with things like pollution and forest fires. Even if tourists behave responsibly, the sheer number of them can cause problems. Things like ancient buildings, monuments and temples often struggle to cope with the vast amounts of tourist traffic and suffer wear and tear, or damage.
The commercialization of culture can undermine the soul of a tourist destination. Local traditions that have a rich cultural heritage are reduced to wearing costumes and putting on acts for the tourists in return for money.
Tourists can often lack respect for local traditions and culture, not following local dress standards, for example, or getting drunk in public, or behaving rudely or inappropriately towards locals.
Although often jobs are created by tourism, most are relatively low level, such as bar work, hotel service, restaurant serving, etc. with little prospect for promotion.
Tourism jobs are quite commonly seasonal and insecure with no extra benefits, such as pensions, sick pay, or health care. Some areas can be packed with visitors during busy times, and then virtually deserted for many months.
Money can end up being directed to tourist areas when it could be used more effectively elsewhere in a country — the locals who don’t live in specific tourist areas miss out and suffer relative decline.
Often much of the tourism industry (travel companies, hotels, etc.) in a developing country is actually owned by big foreign companies, who make the major profits, leaving local businesses with relatively little benefit.
Tourism can create an imbalance where it becomes so successful that other forms of income generation are neglected and an economic dependence on tourism forms. This is fine in the good times, but can leave the country vulnerable to economic ruin, if it suffers political upheaval, terrorist attacks, or natural disasters, and tourism consequently dips or dries up altogether.

答案                                                 My View on Tourism
The author discusses in details benefits and drawbacks of tourism. In the author’s view, tourism is a double-edged sword that can boost income and employment, raise tourist attractions’ profile as well as preserve urban and wildlife areas, while at the same time tourism can result in damages to the environment, culture, and local inhabitants’ life. As an ordinary college student, I love traveling and among the benefits and drawbacks of tourism I find two main issues that we can not shrug off lightly.
To begin with, it has been a rather common phenomenon that holidaymakers flock to popular renowned attractions, leading to such problems as traffic congestion, noise, etc. Every holiday one of the hottest news you can’ read about would be swarms of tourists get stuck in a super long queue, waiting for getting in or out of the scenic spot. In such a case, what tourists gain from the sightseeing are not happiness and joy but irritation and annoyance after devoting so much money. How frustrating it is!
Furthermore, not only does tourism incur problems to tourists themselves but also to local environment and culture. Large amounts of revenue are accompanied by a mountainous pile of trash left behind by hundreds of thousands of irresponsible visitors, which becomes a huge burden to dustmen. In addition, recreation facilities and hotels constructed to boom tourism also yield negative impact on cultural relics, making people pay less attention to its rich culture and history. Another negative effect is that locals get rid of traditional lifestyle after frequent interaction with visitors, making it more difficult to preserve local customs.
In conclusion, tourism needs to be carefully managed; if not, it would turn very annoying both to the tourists and the tourist destinations. For the sake of sustainable tourism development and enjoyable travelling experiences, it is important that effective measures be taken to eliminate negative impacts.
